Why choose solar?

  • Be part of the solution for a more sustainable future

  • Save on your annual utility bills long-term

Did you know that only 3.3% of UK homes currently use solar panels? Despite this, the UK is already the third biggest country in the EU for solar usage.

By choosing solar, you can be part of the solution and help guide the UK towards a more sustainable future.

Plus, with electricity prices expected to continue rising, investing in solar now can help reduce your annual utility bills and provide long-term savings.

Stay in charge

Using solar batteries is a smart way to get the most out of your solar energy system.

By storing the excess electricity generated by our solar tiles, you can use it later when your energy demands are high.

Our team can install a wide range of storage systems tailored to the unique needs of each home. The amount of storage required and the size of your solar array play pivotal roles in determining the ideal system.

FAQs

  • A south-facing roof is ideal orientation for a solar panel system because it tends to generate the most electricity from the solar panels.

Since they receive the sun at its most powerful for the longest time, south-facing roof panels generate the most energy.

However, this does not rule out the possibility of installing solar panels on rooftops with an east or west orientation. If your roof is oriented differently, you will most certainly still notice significant benefits.

The morning sun will be reflected off an east-facing roof, whereas the afternoon and evening sun will reflect off a west-facing roof.

North-facing roof orientations are not ideal for solar energy capture.

  • Solar PV panels are known as a "permitted development". This means that for most domestic properties, planning permission is not required.

On listed building and in conservation areas please contact your local planning authority before commencing work.

  • According to OVO Energy, the typical UK household uses 3,760 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity each year.

A 4kW system would generate around 3,400 kWh per annum which would almost completely net off your annual consumption.

Our tiles are modular, so we can install any size of system you require. Each tile is 100w, so a 4kW system would require 40 tiles (40x100w).

Our guidelines for system size would be:

    3kW - small house
    4kW - medium house
    5kW - large house
6kW and larger - dependent on requirements

  • Our tiles are 1.4m x 0.43m in size. therefore for the following size installations we will require a continuous flat tiling areas of:

    3kW system - 25 sqm roof
    4kW system - 32 sqm roof
    5kW system - 38 sqm roof
    6kW system - 45 sqm roof

Please email us to discuss your requirements and to book in a free suitability survey.

  • Our tiles are rated to last 25 years and are 3 times stronger than regular tiles.

There is no maintenance required for the tiles. To perform optimally they need to just be kept clean, and rain water does a really good job of ensuring that.

It is recommended that your system is checked and serviced every 2 years.

  • Because Tyle replaces your existing roof tiles, installation is slightly longer than traditional solar panels.

We will start by surveying your roof, ensuring that the structure is suitable for installation and booking you in for a work date.

Once on-site, we will erect scaffolding, remove tiles that are no longer required, and then install your new Tyle’s onto the existing roof.

If required, felt and batons will be replaced/upgraded to ensure the roof structure is secure and stable.

Once the roof is complete our certified electricians will commission the system and install inverter and battery (if required).

We will test the system, run you through a demonstration and finally provide you with a certificate of compliance (MCS).

Installation will range from 4-6 days depending on complexity

  • It may make sense to do a number of things whilst scaffolding is erected.

We are happy to leave the scaffolding in place if you want to paint the house or do any other maintenance.

One of the most obvious things would be to finish the rest of the roof in a similar colour or finish. We have over 30 years of experience in the roofing trade and are happy to quote for this additional work.

  • Due to the fact that roofs are all very different, it is impossible for us to give one price that fits all. And if we did, simple, cheaper jobs would be subsidising the more complex jobs and we don’t think this would be fair.

Solar tiles are a new innovation and we are committed to driving forward this technology at an affordable price point.

We are striving to make Tyle only slightly more expensive than a reroof, to make it a no-brainer decision for anyone reroofing to swap to Tyle.

We aren’t there yet, but we are close.

Guideline pricing is around £14-21k for a 3-6kw system. Battery systems in addition are £5-8k on top of these prices.

In-fact, if you needed to reroof anyway and then installed solar panels afterwards, we are already much cheaper.
